Working at home

So Christine has been sick for a couple of weeks now, and Richie has it now too. The last couple of days, he's stayed home from work, which is great since I get to have company all day long!

But the truth be known, most of what I do is sleep. Sleep in my safe room, sleep outside on the concrete, sleep on the tile in bathroom, sleep on the marble in the foyer, or as shown above, sleep on the kitchen floor. I know Richie is upstairs in his office working, but it is so much nicer knowing that I have company, even though I'm just sleeping the day away.

Hangin' at the yurt

What a beautiful morning at the yurt!

Hmmm... I wonder what would happen if I went in for a drink? I'm not sure about going in the water, at least beyond my belly, as shown below.

But I am happy to go for another spin around the lake in Richie's boat...

you would think that it is too hot for me to be in the sun that long, but with the bottom of the boat being so cool, I get great naps while we are out on the lake!

As for Richie and Christine, they couldn't go into the yurt for a nap, as it was too hot during the day, so they hooked up a sheet for some shelter from the sun. Even still, it was 30 C in the shade. It was easy for me to find shade in the trees by the lake.

Richie even cooked dinner over the open fire - cowboy-style! They had some tasty stuff - bbq ribs and pan-fried potatoes... I know this, because when Richie wasn't looking, I licked the spoon!

After dinner, we went for a sunset cruise around the lake...

Smooch!

Here I am, probably checking out the loons on the lake, or looking for that elusive beaver!

Anyhow, so ends my summer vacation - but who's kidding who - every day is a vacation for me!

Wasley Lake yurting

Are we there yet?

On the day after the holiday (Canada Day, or something like that) we got into the car again, and drove up to a place called "Douglas Lake Ranch". It is touted as the largest working cattle ranch in North America. My first question: What are "cattle"? I would soon find out.
Anyhow, it's pretty cool, as this place has so much real estate, that they need a little community of their own, just to run the ranch. We stopped in here to pick up a key to the yurt, and sign waivers and get warnings about the bears - bears? What are bears?

So just a short 45-minute drive from the home ranch, is the yurt. On the way, we saw some really big dogs called "horses" - they thought we were important, as about 12 of them (not really sure, since I can't count) started following us. Then the cowboys came over the hill and led them off in a different direction. I was really excited. Then I saw the even bigger dogs called "cows" - they were huge! Especially the ones with the horns... I'm not sure that I would like to be out running around chasing them, but from the safety of the Rover, it was like nothing I've ever experienced.

And then we arrived at the yurt... so what the heck is a yurt?

yurt - [yoort]
–noun
a tentlike dwelling of the Mongol and Turkic peoples of central Asia, consisting of a cylindrical wall of poles in a lattice arrangement with a conical roof of poles, both covered by felt or skins.

This yurt is different however, as it is on a secluded lake, that is only accessible from a private road. So we had this entire lake and yurt to ourselves! I went out in the boat when we went fishing - I don't know what the big deal about these fish is, as they don't seem that exciting to me. But I do like hanging out with Richie and Christine in the boat! Here I am, posing at the front of the boat, showing what a good "sea-dog" I am... I don't even get sick! It's getting late, and I've had a long day. I'll put some more stuff up later, as this was only day one!

My summer vacation

So we took another ride in the car up to a place called Kamloops - this is where Richie is from. When we got there, I was surprised to find 3 other doggies up there to play with! There was Jasper and Lupin (pictured below), and a new friend, Harley, a 4-month old Sheltie. We would hang out by the pool, and watch the kids (and Richie) play in the pool. It was pretty hot there, so we Berners would just find the coolest, shadiest patch of patio to lie on. That crazy Jasper would actually lie in the sun, on the hot cement! We could also easily go for a stroll into Grampa Chin's fruit garden/orchard area when we need to go #1 or #2. It didn't make him very happy, when Grampa went up to pick his cherries, only to find that we had laid land mines all over the place!
We also went for a walk to a place called "Peterson Creek Park" - just a block or two away from where we were staying, it was a nice hike down to a cool, lush play area. We ran (ok, I ran) around in the water, trying to get the other dogs to play with me, but they weren't having anything to do with it. It was great fun drinking from the creek too.
I'll post some more pics when Grandma Chin sends them down to Richie.
